Sweet as baby Jesus!
...and I suppose that is why I was asked to play Him. Every year, the University Christian Church on Texas Christian University's campus hosts the Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival. It's a pretty big deal!
Over 300 cast members perform the old, English story where the killing of a boar symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. The second half of the performance is the Nativity story. The church usually chooses a family with a new baby to play Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. This year there was a last minute cancellation, and the church needed a replacement.
My Grand and Grandpa's friends, the Costas's, were in charge of replacing the missing Holy family. Well, wouldn't you know that I just happen to be a family friend and a new baby?!?!
We had our own dressing room! I just kind of chilled out while I was waiting for my "big moment."
It was a pretty big deal. My mama, daddy, and I were dressed in costumes and escorted into a tryptich. When the music swelled and the doors opened, my mama passed me (NAKED!!!) up to my daddy who held me up to all those kneeling below me. It was pretty surreal....that's a new word in my vocabulary.
Afterwards, all of the children in the cast kept coming up to me and asking my parents if they could see the baby Jesus. Again...it was pretty surreal....but a cool experience.
